Divergent Picobirnaviruses in Human Feces
The near-complete genomes of two picobirnaviruses (PBVs) in diarrheal stool samples, human picobirnaviruses D and E (HuPBV-D and -E), were genetically characterized. Their RNA-dependent RNA polymerase (RdRp) protein sequences had <66% identities to known PBVs. Due to a single nucleotide insertion, the open reading frame 2 (ORF2) in segment 1 of HuPBV-D was interrupted by a stop codon. A small s...
متن کاملDetermination of plutonium in human feces.
The toxic effects of plutonium on the human body depend on a considerable number of physical and biological factors. One of the most important biological factors is the rate of elimination of plutonium from the body. The ratio of fecal to urinary excretion of plutonium by the rat is of the order of 10: 1. This is, indeed, a favorable ratio. Preliminary information, however, indicates that the e...
متن کاملDetection of Plasmodium spp. in Human Feces
Comparison of diagnostic methods for Plasmodium spp. in humans from Uganda and the Central African Republic showed that parasites can be efficiently detected by PCR in fecal samples. These results, which rely solely on PCR-based examination of feces, validate numerous estimates of the prevalence of malaria in great apes.
متن کاملHuman red cell glycolytic intermediates.
The human red blood cell is readily available in a wide range of quantities and can be processed to a highly purified single cell suspension. It normally converts glucose almost quantitatively to lactic acid, and this conversion appears to be a predominant fraction of the total metabolic activity (1). Because of these characteristics the human red cell provides a convenient material for the stu...
